Michael Comeau of Jericho, Vermont began his career in 1988 as a clerk bagging groceries for Grand Union in Burlington, Vermont. By 2004 Mike was ready to take both his working knowledge of the grocery retail business and the personal success he had garnered through the purchasing, rental, management and sale of residential lease holdings to the next level by purchasing a grocery store of his own. In October of 2004, Mike purchased a small market in Richmond, VT that he named Richmond Corner Market.
In November 2011 Mike purchased his second store, formerly known as RJ’s Friendly Market in Waterbury, VT, naming it the Village Market of Waterbury. His dedication and commitment has led him to successfully build this location into a trademark member of the Waterbury community supplying close to 50 jobs. In August of this year Mike will open his third store in Johnson, VT. The location, formerly a Grand Union supermarket, will follow the same hybrid, community oriented grocery retail model that Mike is known for.
He has served on the Vermont Grocers’ Association Board of Directors since 2011 and currently serves as the Chair of Membership Services and Vice Chair of the Investment Committee. During his limited free time, Mike spends time on his boat and fishing. He has fished on the professional bass tour for many years.
